GLOSSARY

What is embedded lending?

DEFINITION

Embedded lending is credit offered inside a non-bank product, such as a software platform or marketplace, at the moment a customer needs it.

Also called: Embedded finance lending, Embedded credit

How it works

A software company partners with a lender, or lends from its own balance sheet, and offers financing in its product: working capital for merchants, invoice financing for wholesalers, or pay-later terms at checkout. The platform's advantage is data. With the customer's consent it can read ledgers, sales and bank data to underwrite faster and monitor the loan afterwards.

Example

A commerce platform offers merchants a cash advance repaid from future sales. It underwrites using twelve months of orders, payouts and accounting data, and monitors repayment through the same connections.

In integrations

The embedded lending solution on Unify Int pulls P&L, balance sheet, AR aging, bank and commerce data with borrower consent into one normalized model, for underwriting and ongoing monitoring. Consent records come from Unify Connect. Platforms add lending to grow revenue and retention, and their edge over banks is direct access to operating data. That edge depends on reliable, consented connections to each customer's systems.
