About the QuickBooks Desktop integration

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier and Enterprise) is Intuit's on-premise ledger, still common with US mid-size firms. A desktop agent connects company files to the Unify Accounting API.

QuickBooks Desktop has no cloud API: integrations run through the QuickBooks Web Connector and the qbXML SDK on the machine that hosts the company file. Unify Int delivers it as a Technology Center build with a desktop agent that syncs accounts, customers, vendors, invoices and bills on a schedule.

Why build QuickBooks Desktop on Unify Int

  • One data model

QuickBooks Desktop records arrive in the same Unify Graph shape as every other platform in the category, with the original record kept in raw.

  • Unify Connect

A white-label flow for your customers to authorize QuickBooks Desktop. Tokens are stored and refreshed for you.

  • Custom fields and passthrough

Map QuickBooks Desktop custom fields per connection, and call any endpoint the model does not cover through passthrough requests.

  • Unify Monitor

Request logs, sync health and alerts for every QuickBooks Desktop connection, so support can see what happened.

QuickBooks Desktop integration questions

Does Unify Int support QuickBooks Desktop invoices and bills?
QuickBooks Desktop is available as a Technology Center build: we scope, build and maintain the connector for you on the Unify Accounting API. The planned scope covers accounts, customers, vendors, invoices, bills, payments, journal entries, items, tax rates and attachments. Talk to the Technology Center to start.
How do customers connect their QuickBooks Desktop account?
A lightweight desktop agent is installed next to the company file and authorised once in QuickBooks. The agent connects outbound to Unify Int, so no inbound ports are opened.
Is there a QuickBooks Desktop sandbox for testing?
Intuit does not offer a hosted sandbox for Desktop. Testing uses a sample company file on a test machine, which the Technology Center sets up during scoping.
How often does QuickBooks Desktop data sync?
QuickBooks Desktop does not emit webhooks for most objects, so Unify Sync polls incrementally on the schedule you set per object, typically every 15 minutes to daily, and sends you signed webhooks when records change.
Can I access QuickBooks Desktop custom fields?
Custom fields defined in QuickBooks Desktop (data extensions) can be read through the agent and mapped per connection during the Technology Center build.
