About the FreshBooks integration

FreshBooks is invoicing-first accounting software for freelancers, agencies and small service businesses. The Unify Accounting API covers its clients, invoices, expenses, payments and accounts.

FreshBooks offers a REST API with OAuth 2.0 and webhooks for invoices, payments and clients. On the Unify Graph its clients map to customers and its expenses map to bills or expense records, so service businesses on FreshBooks look the same to your product as those on QuickBooks or Xero.

Why build FreshBooks on Unify Int

  • One data model

FreshBooks records arrive in the same Unify Graph shape as every other platform in the category, with the original record kept in raw.

  • Unify Connect

A white-label flow for your customers to authorize FreshBooks. Tokens are stored and refreshed for you.

  • Custom fields and passthrough

Map FreshBooks custom fields per connection, and call any endpoint the model does not cover through passthrough requests.

  • Unify Monitor

Request logs, sync health and alerts for every FreshBooks connection, so support can see what happened.

FreshBooks integration questions

Does Unify Int support FreshBooks invoices and expenses?
FreshBooks is on the Unify Int roadmap. The planned scope covers reading accounts, clients, invoices, expenses, payments, items, tax rates and attachments, with write-back for clients, invoices and expenses to follow. Request it to move it up, or ask the Technology Center about a custom build.
How do customers connect their FreshBooks account?
Your customer authorises Unify Int in Unify Connect with their FreshBooks login (OAuth 2.0) and chooses the business to connect.
Is there a FreshBooks sandbox for testing?
FreshBooks does not run a separate sandbox. Testing uses a FreshBooks trial or developer account with test data.
How often does FreshBooks data sync?
Unify Sync combines FreshBooks change notifications where the platform emits them with incremental polling elsewhere. You set the frequency per object, from a few minutes for transactional records to daily for reference data.
Can I access FreshBooks custom fields?
FreshBooks has limited custom fields; anything outside the model is available in `raw` or through passthrough requests.
