How it works
Bill pay starts after a bill is approved. The payer chooses a method and date, funds move through a bank or payment network, and remittance details go to the supplier. A bill payment record then clears the bill in the ledger, linked to the bank account it was paid from. Errors in that last step leave bills open that were already paid.
Example
A bill pay product pays three bills from one vendor in a single ACH transfer and records three bill payments in the customer's QuickBooks Online file, each against the right bill.
In integrations
Bill pay products live or die on accurate write-back. The Unify Accounting API is designed to create bill payments linked to their bills and bank accounts, with idempotency keys so a retried payment record never posts twice. Write status is shown per platform. Recording the payment in the ledger is what makes bill pay trustworthy to finance teams. If the ledger and the bill pay product disagree, customers stop trusting both.
