How it works
Each item master record holds the item number, description, units of measure and conversions, item type, costing method, default vendors, reorder settings and the income, expense and inventory accounts it posts to. Purchasing, inventory, sales and manufacturing all reference it. Descriptive marketing content usually lives in a PIM, while the item master owns operational and financial attributes.
Example
A distributor's item master defines a fastener sold in boxes of 100 but stocked by the each, costed at standard cost, and posting sales to the Hardware Revenue account.
In integrations
The Unify ERP API is designed to read and write items with their units, costs and accounting links, and the Catalog API matches them to PIM and storefront products by SKU or GTIN. That is how a SKU on the Unify Graph links its stock, orders and revenue. Item master quality decides whether inventory, cost and revenue reports agree. Linking item master records to catalog and channel data closes the gap between what is sold and what is booked.
